A busy week!

What a busy week in F1. We started our Summer topic of ‘At the Seaside’ by looking under the sea at the story of ‘Finding Nemo’. We looked at different types of fish, from small clown fish, to huge sharks. In numeracy we have been looking at measuring, seeing how long a fish is, by counting how many paper clips it takes from nose to tail.

Lots of exciting things have happened this week in Foundation.

First, the morning children have been able to visit the library for the first time. The staff at the library very kindly opened up especially for us, so that we could choose a book.

Secondly, in Suretots, we had the huge apparatus out. It was so scarey. We were taller than Mrs Fenton. (It’s not hard to be taller than Mrs Woodhead!)

Thirdly, of course it was Sports day. Weren’t we great. We had a fantastic time doing the bean bag and bucket race, the egg and spoon race and the running running race. Well done Foundation!

We love learning!

This week in foundation we have been playing imaginatively together. Some of us really enjoy doing exercises (not Mrs Woodhead or Mrs Fenton). We have been running, hoola hooping, and doing flips and rolls on to the sponge bricks.

In number we have been sorting bears to colour and size, and of course counting and ordering numbers. In literacy we looked at how animals change as they get older, from frogspawn to frog, from egg to butterfly, from egg to duck. We looked at photos of Mrs Woodhead from when she was a baby, right through to now she is a grandma. Imagine the changes! Black and white photos (No not sepia, I’m not that old!)

Our week

This week we have read the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Our real caterpillars have turned into cocoons and we have put them into the butterfly net to wait for them to hatch.

In numeracy we have been ordering numbers to 10.

The highlight of our week has been our walk to Langold Lake. We saw baby geese, ducks and swans. We also saw tadpoles in the water. What a fabulous experience and the children behaved amazingly! Mrs Fenton and Mrs Woodhead were very proud! 🙂

We have been busy bees!

F1 had a lovely walk to the library on Tuesday with their friends from F2. They chose new books and Mrs Fenton read them a fantastic story.

In numeracy this week we have been looking at measure and we have been seeing who is the biggest and who is the smallest. We have been ordering our toys by size.

In literacy we have been mark making and using our own writing to describe characters from the story, ‘Where the wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak.

Diary dates

The last two weeks are going to be so busy!
To celebrate the end of the topic we will be having a monster party on Friday 13th February. It would be lovely if your child could dress up as a monster and any party food would be greatly appreciated.
On Wednesday 11th February all Foundation will be going into the woods on a monster hunt! (Don’t worry, we are finding different pictures of monsters that will be hanging in the trees- not real ones!)
On Tuesday 3rd February the Giraffe group are going to the library for a monster story session and on 10th February the Zebra group and F1 pm children will be doing the same

They have been riding on the bikes outside and taking their friends for a ride, playing with the dinosaurs in the sand and filling and emptying the containers in the water.

Our topic is ‘Monsters’ and we have been reading the Gruffalo and then we have retold the story using toy characters. We have also sequenced the pictures from the story and talked about the beginning, middle and end.

A highlight of the week has been Caterpillar music with Alison. We met the owl and the horse puppets, played with the musical instruments and danced under the bubble machine. We really enjoyed the ‘Thingyamajig’ and pulling the huge piece of elastic. Ask me about it!

It’s Chrissssstmasssss…..

This week we have been busy writing some Christmas present lists and measuring using Christmas presents! We have been listening for sounds we can hear when we are writing and using words such as short, long, small and large to measure.

Have you been using any of these words at home or have you written a list?
